Tips for Healthy Kitchen

The undeniable truth: Healthy Eating and Healthy Family! It all starts at kitchen.



  Some important tips to create a healthy kitchen:


  1. Consume healthy food
  • Applying the five groups food pyramid in daily meal plan
  • Reduce meat, and increase fruit and vegetable
  • Reduce fat and sugar consumption
  • Choose more alkaline food over acidic food, check on the chart
  • Say No to artificial coloring, preservative and chemical in processed food
  • Say No to soda drink (e.g. Coke)
  • Say No to frozen food, if possible
  • Say No to quick ready food like instant noodles
  1. Filter and purify your water
  • Make sure both the drinking and cooking water are free from lead, chemical and other dangerous impurities.
  • Research shows that excessive exposure to lead and fluoride in water can damage human brain
  1. Choose the right kitchen utensil
  • Common kitchenware (cooking, eating utensils) making materials are copper, iron, earthenware or enamelware, aluminum
  • Negative reaction with food and discolored at low or high temperatures show possible toxicity
  • Report shows that excessive amount of aluminum can impair human brain which leads to symptoms similar to Alzheimer's disease and osteoporosis.
  • PFOA (in nonstick coated cookware) has been shown to cause cancer, low birth weight and a suppressed immune system.
  1. Adopt healthy cooking methods
  • Less oil-deep fried cooking, increase steaming-type cooking
  • Preserve the mineral of vegetable and fruit by taking them as raw as possible
  • Reduce oil in cooking, and have rainbow meals, check on my recipes
  • No water in quick stir-fry vegetable
  • Reduce salt and sugar in your cooking
  • Stop cooking the soup at the right time, both with vegetable or with bone
  1. Adopt healthy eating manner
  • Chew slowly before you swallow down the food
  • Have your food at your dining table
  • Say No to bad eating habits: eating in front of television or eating while reading books
  • Talk less while eating
  • Conversation over the meal is great for family communication, but do it wisely

Finally, of course wash your hands before meal, keep a napkin reachable to children at all time. With less oil cooking method, you won't have to wash your dishes with excessive detergent which contains chemical in it. Have a healthy kitchen, therefore a healthy family!
